Day 3: Sleepy Day, Travel Day.

Nico: We were going over to the Vatican. And, it was a long walk.
Luca: I thought it was called Novatican.
The walk was about 45 minutes.

Luca: Those are some statues we looked at.
Nico: There are lots of private parts to see at the Vatican.

Nico: this is me next to a weird statue.
Luca: We got to wear ear phones and listen to the person who was guiding us.

Luca: This is the ceiling of the Vatican.
Nico: The ceiling there is pretty beautiful!

Nico: There are lots of pictures of people at the Vatican.
Luca: My earphones started getting low around there.

Luca: Here is where my earphones ran out.
Nico: Poor Luca.

Nico: This is us taking a rest.
Luca: That is why it is pretty much called sleepy day.

Luca: This is us sitting with all of mom's students listening to what was about to happen.
Nico: Mom's students were pretty nice and funny.

Nico: We were taking a rest AGAIN.
Luca: It wouldn't be called sleepy day if it was just the other picture, so that is why it is called Sleepy Day.

Luca: That is another dome.
Nico: That's in Saint Peters.
Luca: We thought that somebody was getting in trouble there.

Nico: I fell asleep at dinner.
Luca: It took a long time for Nico to wake up and his head almost fell into a bowl of clams.
Nico sure was sleeping hard!
Nico: I slept for so long that my bowl of clams came even when I was still sleeping. That's why my head almost fell into a bowl of clams.
Luca: When we saw that picture today, Nico didn't remember us taking it because he was sleeping.

Luca: Day 3 there was a lot of tiresome walking but I had to go to bed late because we had to eat dinner.
Nico: That dinner was sure good but I didn't get to finish because I was still sleeping halfway and I didn't feel hungry. I was dreaming about hot chili peppers that made my breath be fire.
Luca: I also got a mix of anchovies, baby octopus and shrimp but I gave mom and dad all the anchovies and they gave me some grilled squid because the anchovies had too many bones for me.
Nico: The Vatican was cool and fun.
Luca: The Vatican was actually way hotter! I thought it would be colder!
Nico: I'm great.

Day 2: The great day!

Luca: we ate some great pudding.
Nico: It was called creme brulee.
Luca: It was kind of hard to eat because I didn't know it was hard sugar that you have to crack with a spoon.
Nico: I'm great.

Luca: We took a church tour and that was the first church that we went to.

Nico: This is a picture of Saint Matthew.
Luca: That picture is very famous.

Nico: Somebody stole the penis of this statue.
Luca: I thought that you weren't allowed to do that. He buried it in his garden!

Luca: these are some flowers at a church.
Nico: The flowers in Rome were pretty beautiful!

Luca: This is a huge dome that was very cool to me.
Nico: It is not a real dome. It is a painting.
(Mom: It is trompe d'oeil.)
Nico: I took a picture of daddy sitting on a bench in a church.
Luca: I think he is waiting for a painting to open up into something famous.
Nico: it was a different church.
Luca: I do not think it was a different church.

Luca: This is a very famous tomb.

Luca: That is a dead man but it could be a sculpture.
Nico: I'm pretty sure it is a sculpture.

Nico: That is a picture of something on the ceiling.
Luca: When mommy told me about it, I thought that was impossible to make. I freaked out because mom said that the curved edges were just paint!

Luca: The painting that I wrote about earlier opened up and turned into something very famous.

Luca: We were eating at a gelato place.
Nico: the gelato good was not as melty but it did melt.

No Picture
Nico: Luca had clams and I ate a big plate of pasta. It was pretty good pasta and clams.
Luca: Not only Nico ate a whole plate of pasta, but I ate a whole plate of mussels and clams. The clams and mussels were pretty good and I dipped my bread into their sauce after I finished.
I really liked about Day 2 that it was a great day and the dinner was very good.

More pictures from Day 1

We were looking at kind of a cat city. (Mom: This is in the Argentinean square, where they have turned some ruins into a cat sanctuary.)  It was really full of cats!

This is us at the Trevi fountain. It is where all the water that you use in Rome begins.

Nico: I was drinking from an acquafir there!
Luca: I got grumpy when I tried because I got a huge amount of water in my nose.

Nico: In this family picture there, Luca was still pretty grumpy.

Luca: We were looking at a huge church that we could see the Colosseum from! (Mom: This was capitoline hill).

Nico: We found a statue of two bears next to an eagle.
Luca: I thought it was very cool.

Nico: We found a giant door, the biggest door we've ever seen in Italy!
Luca: I was barely taller than it!

No Picture
Luca: We went to a restaurant in our neighborhood called Popi Popi and I ate a gigantic squid salad and Nico ate a big plate of pasta.
Nico: Everyone loved my pasta. (Mom: It was cacio e pepe).
Luca: What do I like about Italy? I like Italy because it is very fun there and I don't have to get my own water and can drink from an acquafir. Also, it is pretty exciting there because two policemen with big guns are in every neighborhood that I've been seeing.
Nico: There is also a big truck!
Luca: What do I not like? I don't like that it is very hot in Italy. Also, Italy smells a little worse in the apartment and the door is harder to open.
Nico: I'm great.

Day 1 in Italy

On day 1 I went to the Rome Airport and I went into an airplane picture. We were having fun in Seattle and pretty sad to leave, but also excited to go. When we arrived, we got to walk over the Tiber River. But when we got to Rome, we found out it would be more fun than we thought. (Luca says, "I already knew it would be very fun.")

I got too hot there! So, I went to this thing called an acquafir and put water on myself. We also went to get some good ice cream. The only thing we didn't like about it was that it melted too quickly in the sun.

Also in the middle of the day we took a little cool shot in the bathtub. (Mom: It was over 97 degrees that day!)

What We are Worried About Italy

By Luca, I am worried that people will think I am weird because I don't speak Italian.

By Nico I am worried I might get really hurt. (I might scrape my knee)
