Food Log Continued

More foods I've tried...I'm getting better with new foods. I really enjoyed Joe's O's but it takes a while for me to soften them so I can only eat 1 every 5 minutes.

Cauliflower is incredible!!!!

At the Wading Pool & Visting the Library

Luca had some fun at the wading pool with one of his buddies. He had lots of fun splashing around and we had to drag him out of the pool. He also got to play with a dog for the first time, since his friend brought along his Golden Retriever. Luca was laughing uncontrollably every time he saw the dog come near...I anticipate some requests for a pet coming very soon...

Over the weekend, Luca visited the famous Seattle Public Library. It was lots of fun and he had a great time seeing the architecture. We may have a little future architect growing up in our house...

Staring at the all-red hallway...

Watching people ride the elevator

Playing in the Children's section of the library...

Lot's of fun and no doubt we will be visiting the library often in the upcoming years!

Food Log

More food updates - it's been a fun couple of weeks. I really like sweet potatoes - they have such a nice texture. Broccoli might be my favorite now, maybe even more than green beans.

The sweet potato puffs are lots of fun - I learned that if I make a fuss while I am out with mommy and daddy, they'll give me a few. The only problem is that they are hard to hold onto. They also let me suck on the edge of some pita bread as well and that was pretty fun too.

My Food Blog

I've added several new good items this month. Although carrots are pretty terrible, there have
been a few good surprises. First, Asian pears turned out to be very good, even though I didn't like pear juice. Zucchini, crackers, and nectarines have also been good additions. Overall, I am much happier about solid foods this month.

Weekend Highlights

It was a very eventful week and weekend for Luca. Mommy was working every night this week, so he was a little bit sad in the evenings. But he still had some fun with his Dad during the week:

On Saturday, Luca had a new friend drop by to play...

Lunchtime keeps getting messier...

And to top it all off, Luca had a reunion with his PEPS group friends - one his buddies graciously hosted everyone at the beach...

Reunited:

Playing nicely...

Some were especially happy to see each other again...

Many of the babies are standing these days...

Smiles for the camera...

A pensive moment with someone else's toy...

Playing nicely, we think....

Birthday Party!

We were also lucky enough to get to celebrate Luca's cousin's first birthday last week:

They were so delighted to meet each other!!

And Luca got lots of tips about how to crawl and walk, and shared his toys nicely:

A day at the zoo

Luca got to go to the zoo this week with one of his favorite girlfriends....

But we heard that he was more interested in his date than the animals!

Thanks, Jenilyn, for taking the cute pictures!

Luca's Food Blog - May/June 2008

Now that I am a big boy and can eat solid foods, I decided to start my own food blog posts to officially begin my life as a "foodie".

Here is what I have started eating the past month or so and my thoughts on each of these new foods...
The vegetables and rice cereal have been pretty good - but my parents have also been pushing some sickeningly sweet food as well...hopefully they will get over it soon.

Luca's Annaprashan Ceremony

Luca visited his Thamma and Dadubhai so that we could all celebrate his "Annaprashan" ceremony. This ceremony is a Bengali tradition that marks the first time that a baby eats solid food (eventhough Luca had eaten rice cereal by then, his Thamma made some payesh, a rich pudding, as an extra special treat for the occasion).

Here are some videos of the ceremony. We had to wake up Luca from a nap to do the ceremony but he held up well anyway!

In the videos Luca is being held by his mom and is being fed by his mom's brother (another part of the tradition). His other uncle also somehow made it "on stage" though we were not aware of any traditional role he was supposed to play ;-)

After being blessed and fed, there is a game in which Luca chooses from among several items out in front of him on a plate - a book, pen, some coins, and some dirt - that indicate his prospects in life. If he chose the book or pen, he is supposed to become a scholar; the coins indicate wealth, i.e. becoming a merchant or businessman; and the dirt signifies becoming a land owner. We won't spoil the surprise...
